Batana butter has taken the natural hair care world by storm — and for good reason. Rich in fatty acids, vitamin E, and antioxidants, it is one of the most nourishing ingredients you can put on your hair. Here is how to make a basic version at home, and what professional formulation actually looks like once you are ready to go beyond the kitchen.

At Guangzhou Oalen Cosmetics, batana oil is one of the most requested ingredients we work with in our hair growth and repair category. Our own 100% Pure Natural Batana Growth Hair Essential Oil has become a bestseller among our private label clients globally — and part of what drives that demand is how well-educated consumers have become about what batana actually does. So let's start there.

What is batana butter — and why does it work?
Batana oil is extracted from the nuts of the American Oil Palm (Elaeis oleifera), a tree native to Honduras and Central America. It has been used for generations by indigenous communities for hair restoration and scalp health. When the oil is whipped or blended with complementary butters, it becomes batana butter — a richer, more concentrated format that is easier to apply as a leave-in or hair mask.

What makes it effective comes down to its nutritional profile. Batana is exceptionally rich in oleic and linoleic acids (omega-9 and omega-6 fatty acids), which penetrate the hair shaft rather than just sitting on the surface. It is also high in vitamin E and beta-carotene, which protect hair follicles from oxidative stress — one of the key drivers of premature hair thinning. The result is a triple-action ingredient: it moisturizes deeply, repairs structural damage, and creates a healthier scalp environment for new growth.

Step-by-step method

 1.Measure your formula
Starting ratio: 50% shea butter · 25% batana oil · 10% castor oil · 10% jojoba oil · 4% vitamin E · 1% essential oil. For a 100g batch, that is 50g shea, 25g batana, 10g castor, 10g jojoba, 4g vitamin E, 1g EO.

 2..Melt shea gently
Use a double boiler on low heat — just until liquid. Do not overheat; excessive temperature degrades the vitamins and fatty acids. Remove from heat immediately once melted.

 3.Blend in the oils
Stir in batana, castor, and jojoba while the shea is still warm. The batana will turn the blend a warm amber — that is intact nutrient content, not a flaw.

 4.Chill, then whip
Refrigerate for 20–30 minutes until semi-solid. Whip with a hand mixer on medium-high for 5–8 minutes until light and fluffy. This is what makes it a butter rather than an oil blend.

5.Finish and jar
Add vitamin E and essential oil on low speed. Mix 30 seconds, then transfer to sterilized glass jars. Store in a cool, dry place — shelf life without a commercial preservative is 3–6 months.

A DIY batana butter made at home is a genuinely effective hair treatment — if you source quality ingredients and make it correctly. But there are real limits. Without a proper preservative system, shelf life is short. Batch-to-batch consistency is difficult to control. And scaling a homemade formula into a product you can sell is a different challenge entirely — one that involves stability testing, compliance documentation, and a manufacturing partner who knows the ingredient inside and out.

This is exactly where Guangzhou Oalen Cosmetics comes in. We manufacture the Oalen 120ml 100% Pure Natural Batana Growth Hair Essential Oil — a professional-grade batana formulation that our private label clients sell under their own brands globally. For brand founders who have discovered the power of batana through DIY experimentation and want to take it to market, our OEM and ODM service provides the bridge from kitchen formula to shelf-ready product.
