Batana oil is extracted from the nuts of the American Oil Palm (Elaeis oleifera), a tree native to Honduras and Central America. It has been used for generations by indigenous communities for hair restoration and scalp health. Step-by-step method
1.Measure your formula
Starting ratio: 50% shea butter · 25% batana oil · 10% castor oil · 10% jojoba oil · 4% vitamin E · 1% essential oil. For a 100g batch, that is 50g shea, 25g batana, 10g castor, 10g jojoba, 4g vitamin E, 1g EO.
2..Melt shea gently
Use a double boiler on low heat — just until liquid. Do not overheat; excessive temperature degrades the vitamins and fatty acids. Remove from heat immediately once melted.
3.Blend in the oils
Stir in batana, castor, and jojoba while the shea is still warm. The batana will turn the blend a warm amber — that is intact nutrient content, not a flaw.
4.Chill, then whip
Refrigerate for 20–30 minutes until semi-solid. Whip with a hand mixer on medium-high for 5–8 minutes until light and fluffy. This is what makes it a butter rather than an oil blend.
5.Finish and jar
Add vitamin E and essential oil on low speed. Mix 30 seconds, then transfer to sterilized glass jars. Store in a cool, dry place — shelf life without a commercial preservative is 3–6 months.
